About the Session

Objectively defining light colour is challenging. Some even say it’s impossible, as the human eye never perceives colour quite the same way twice. Yet, as a lighting designer, you’re expected to manage colour — and white — as accurately as possible. Inconsistent colour results are never welcome and unexpected deviations can compromise your creative vision.

Achieving reliable colour control requires an understanding of complex lighting technologies. That’s where we come in. Our role is to translate technical concepts into practical design insights, helping ensure that your creative lighting ideas are realised exactly as you envisioned them. In short, we aim to bridge creativity and technology - the left and right sides of the brain.

With that in mind, we’re offering a workshop on colour and the colour white. Topics include:

  • Multi-die LEDs and LED drivers
  • Current control and colour calibration
  • Colour mixing algorithms and the CIE1931 diagram
  • RGB language and xy coordinates
  • The nature of “white” and the Planckian/Black Body Locus
  • Control protocols (DMX, RDM, Art-Net, sACN)
  • An overview how SGM fixtures fit into all of this
